Here are some frequently asked questions, in no particular order… Are marquees waterproof?

Yes. The only potential risk of water egress is at ground level in the case of extreme pooling or flooding.

How do the side walls attach and are they removable?

The side walls fit neatly into the bays between the legs of the marquee. They can easily be removed/replaced at any time in just a few minutes. If requested, our riggers will demonstrate to you how to do this for yourself.

Do I pay extra for side walls?

No we usually supply them as matter of course and they are included in the price. There can be an additional charge for window walls.

What do we need to provide, for us to have lighting?

If your marquee is located close to an adjacent building or other mains power supply and you only require a domestic level supply, we can usually link up to the nearest 13A plug point. If you anticipate requiring a heavier electrical load then we will require the appropriate power source to be provided by the client, alternatively we can supply a generator. We provide a small distribution board with circuit breakers which is located discreetly in the marquee.

Do you carry out a site visit?

Yes, for potential business within 30 miles of our base in NW London we like to carry out a site visit, which is entirely free of charge. Where the location is beyond 30 miles we will levy a small charge to cover our travel however this is usually redeemable against any booking which is subsequently confirmed. A site visit, will enable us to measure and check the site as well as giving us an opportunity to discuss your requirements in much greater detail.

What about insurance?

The marquee is the hirer's responsibility whilst on hire. We can offer a damage waiver unless you are happy arranging your own insurance. Full details given with quotation or please refer to the relevant section above. Can Epic find a venue for me? Yes – we would be delighted to try and help. We have comprehensive knowledge of where marquees can be located and exclusive access to some locations.

Can you provide catering?

Yes – we can provide excellent gourmet catering services. We also have an in-house agency that can assist with music and entertainment and a video and photography department. please refer to the relevant pages on our site or call us for more information.  

What is the smallest marquee that you do?

The smallest marquee is 10' x 10' (3m x 3m) suitable for a trade stand at a show, however we do have a minimum charge so it is unlikely that we would hire just one marquee this small.

Do you provide “traditional” marquees with internal poles and guy ropes or the modern “clearspan” frame marquees?

We can provide either style, in a wide range of sizes.  

Do I require planning permission to have a marquee?

The official answer is that you should check with your own local authority, however, in our experience, for short-duration, private events on private property it is unlikely that you would require any formal permission.   If the marquee is to remain on site for more than a few days then a consultation with your local authority is a must.    

Do you offer a range of ancillary services and essential accessories ?

Yes, we can provide everything you may require for your party or event, please refer to the relevant sections on our site or call us for more information.  

Can you hire a marquee in winter?

Yes, our modern 'clearspan' structures can cope with all but the most severe weather conditions, complying with all statutory safety requirements. We can provide modern, thermostatically controlled heating units to keep the marquee at the desired temperature.

What areas do you cover?

Currently, our usual operating area is London , the Home Counties and Scotland , however for larger events (or multiple dates) we are happy to consider other UK locations and even travelling to Ireland or Continental Europe.  

Can I use a marquee as a temporary extension to my house?

Yes, if the site permits we can erect a marquee adjacent to any building and usually create a link between the two. Please note that external downpipes, outward opening doors and other obstructions may restrict how close a marquee can be butted on to a property however it may be possible to build back tightly around these items.

Can I have a marquee on sloping or uneven ground?

Yes, by using a boarded floor and a scaffold sub-frame it is possible to erect a marquee on most surfaces.

Can I decorate my marquee to match the theme of my wedding?

Yes of course… we are able to develop your theme into the linings and valence, chairs pads/covers etc. Well designed architectural lighting can also be very effective in enhancing you're theme. Please take a look at our specialist pages about theming on this web site.

How much space will I require?

Each event is unique and we would therefore prefer to discuss your personal requirements, our Hire Managers will then be able to recommend the perfect size of marquee for your party or event.

When will the marquee be erected and dismantled?

We normally erect the marquee to be complete and ready the day prior to the event and subsequently dismantle it the day after. Should you wish to have the marquee for longer, we will always try to accommodate your requirements. Likewise, if you only have access to your site on the day of the event we may be able to build from very early morning and dismantle immediately afterwards, although this would usually result in additional charges.

Will someone be at the venue on the day of the event?

The Hire Manager who takes your enquiry will assist you throughout the planning process and will at all times be available either at our office or by mobile. We also have technical staff available “on call” in case of any unexpected issues. For total peace of mind we do offer an option for a marquee event manager or rigger to remain on site throughout your event, for an appropriate fee.

Roughly, what will it cost me to hire a marquee?
